Selection of officers from Civil Services Examination

•Indian Revenue Service (IRS-IT)
•Indian Revenue Service (IRS-C&CE)

Central Services (Group B)
•Armed Forces Headquarters Civil Services (AFHCS)
•Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Islands Civil Service (DANICS)
•Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Islands Police Service (DANIPS)
•Pondicherry Civil Service (PCS)
•Pondicherry Police Service (PPS)
 
All India Services
•Appointment is made by the President of India
•Allotted a Cadre/State and posted in that State
•Go to other States or in Centre on deputation
•Three AIS
     1. Indian Administrative Service (IAS)
     2. Indian Police Service (IPS)
     3. Indian Forest Service (IFoS)
•Selection of IAS and IPS through Civil Services Examination (CSE) conducted by UPSC
•Selection of IFoS through a separate exam, but Prelims is common with CSE
 
Central Services
•Appointed by the President of India
•Can be posted anywhere in the country
•Important Central Services include IFS, IRS (IT), IRS (C&CE), IRTS, IAAS etc.
•Appointment of many services are made through CSE.
 
State Services
•Appointed by the Governor of the State Government
•Posted within the State
•Can be promoted to All India Services by UPSC according to the Promotee quota
•Services include PCS, PPS officers, BDOs, STOs, AE, Teachers etc.
