If I was being hanged
Winston Churchill was once asked, ‘Doesn’t it thrill you, Mr Churchill, to know that every time you make a speech, the hall is packed to overflowing?’ ‘It’s quite flattering,’ Winston replied, ‘but whenever I feel this way, I always remember that if instead of making a political speech, I was being hanged, the crowd would be twice as big’.
Qualities of a politician
Once Churchill was asked by a journalist, ‘Please tell us what qualities an aspiring politician should have?’
‘Well,’ replied Churchill, ‘First of all, he must have the knack to foretell what will take place tomorrow, next week, next month and year.’ Then after a pause he added, ‘Besides, he should have the ability to explain why these haven’t happened.’
