Q. What does each of the following quotations mean to you?
(Đ°) ‘Condemn none: if you can stretch out a helping hand, do so. If not, fold your hands, bless your brothers, and let them go their own way.’—Swami Vivekananda (150 words) (10 marks)
Answer:
This quotation by Swami Vivekananda explains the importance of tolerance and cooperation in society. Truth is not unitary, but has multiple dimensions and we should have the tolerance for accepting difference points of view on any issue.
He tells us that it is wrong to condemn people whose thoughts and opinions are different fromours. We must also try to help all people as much as possible. Hence, if a person is seeking our help, we must provide him help if we can, instead of condemning him. If we don’t wish to help the person, we must refuse the help with folded hands. We must, however, wish him good and seek his welfare.
Every person has the right to follow his chosen path and we must not consider people following paths different from ours as wrong. Our endeavour should be to create a better society by helping each other and encouraging people to charter their own path of happiness, growth and peace.
